yesterday i finished reading Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. Carrie and I read it for our book club. it was SO good! i definitely recommend it! it's kind of a love story about a Chinese-American boy and Japanese-American girl in seattle during WWII. the boy, Henry, struggles as his father, who is very strict and will have nothing to do with anyone or anything Japanese, is strongly against Henry being acquainted with Keiko, his Japanese best friend. Keiko's family is sent to an internment camp, along with the rest of her Japanese neighborhood. it's really sad at times but also such a cute story! and i learned a lot more about that time in history.
here are a few quotes that i wrote down that i loved from the book. does anyone else do that? maybe it's just me...haha
"Sometimes hope is enough to get you through anything."
"Time is short, but beautiful endings could still be found at the end of cold, dreary days."
"The crash is imminent, it's how you spend your time on the way down that counts."

i write down quotes if something feels especially pertinent to my life, or seems very profound. unfortunately, i haven't read a book in months, but now i'm gonna have to go check that book out from the library! ww2 era is one of my favorites!
